Computer Setup and System Configuration • Re: Intel 14th/13th gen, latency/stability issues?

Hopefully the microcode update that Intel promises by mid-August pans out and helps. Will see.
I don't have much hope for that. I think they are just buying time.

Anyway on ASUS boards you can just limit VID to be asked. Which somewhat seems to work.
I did apply the 0x129 microcode, and saw no difference really for my situation. I have a 14700k on a Noctua NH-D15S (one fan. Can't fit in second fan in this case with this ram.) Even with all the 'tweaks', I would hit 100C on several cores with Cinebench 24 within usually a minute. My Gigabyte Aorus Elite X AX finally came out with the new 0x12b microcode like a week or two ago, and with mostly the same tweaks, I'm now running around 79C on average, with individual cores mostly around 85C, with a max of 92C according to HWinfo with Park Control having all my P cores set to 5500. I get 1919 on Cinebench 24 Multi core which is good enough for me. Runs Cubase just fine, no issues so far.

Here's my settings
  • Intel Default Setting - Disabled
CPU Internal AC/DC Load Line - Power Saving
    IA VR Config - Enabled
    IA AC Loadline - 40
IA VR Voltage Limit - 1400
    Turbo P Core 0-7 Ratio Limit - 55
    Turbo Power Limits - Enabled
    Core Current Limit - 307
    PPL1 - 253
    PPL2 - 253
    Enhanced Multi-Core Performance - Disabled
That being said, under low load, P cores will stay at 5500. Once I start Cinebench, the P cores mostly stay at 5300, but go down to 5200. I'm more worried about better core temps than every last ounce of speed. I've never seen voltage on the cores go above 1.39v now either, which it did on 0x129. Seems to adhere to the IA VR Voltage Limit of 1400 much better now. I barely even used my new machine since I built it in beginning of August, waiting for the updates. Fingers crossed I never really managed to damage anything as the machine was barely powered on, and only used shortly when it was up. Glad to be in a better situation now. 0x12b seems to be much better.
